“White Australia” and the War.
How long can we hold the Northern Territory under present conditions? Can Australia afford to go on wasting thousands in futile efforts of settlement and development by a white population? During the last fifteen years millions have been thrown away in fruitlessly endeavoring to prove it.
The great world war is going to wreck many political and social theories before the last shot is fired. The practicability of the White Australia policy may even be tested by means other than discussions in the press. Be it remembered, for one thing, that the war has brought together Japan and Asiatic Russia!
It is imperative that Australia look around and take a sane view of things before the spoils come to be distributed. A philosopher once wrote that the worst part of war is often the proclamation of peace.
