Mr. Thomas McKenzie.
The passing of Mr. Thomas McKenzie removed from Hesket a highly respected resident who was connected with that district from its earliest recollections, when his death took place on Monday last.
He was a son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth McKenzie, still well remembered pioneers of Hesket, and was the eldest of a family of six, three sons and three daughters.
His two brothers, Andrew and Joseph, predeceased him, but the sisters, Elizabeth (Mrs. Burns), Agnes (Mrs. McKenzie) and Mary (Mrs. O’Neil) remain to mourn the loss of deceased, who had attained the age of 82 years — 70 years of which had been spent in the Hesket district.
His funeral took place at Woodend on Wednesday afternoon last, the Rev. C. E. Hipwell conducting the burial service. The coffin-bearers were Messrs. Norman, Harry and Murdoch McKenzie (nephews) and E. Bickerdyke.
