True Australianism.
The duty of the teacher.
Sydney, January 4.
The first interstate conference of public school teachers was opened to-day in Sydney. The Minister for Education (Mr. Mutch), in his opening speech, made an appeal to those present to encourage in their pupils the growth of the Australian sentiment. He said, “I feel very strongly that teachers must be largely responsible for the destruction of parochial differences, and for creating in the minds of the children who are under their care for so many of the most impressionable years of their lives a true Australianism. (Applause.)
