Obituary.
CHISHOLM, WILLIAM MALCOLM. — Entered the School 1905. Left 1911. He was a Prefect, a member of the Rifle Team and Football Team. On leaving School he went to England to join the Army, and was appointed Lieutenant in the East Lancashire Regiment. With this Regiment he went to the front in August last, and took part in the Battle of Mons, where he received wounds, which subsequently proved fatal.

Lieutenant William Malcolm Chisholm, known as Malcolm, was the first Australian to be killed in World War One; however, he was serving with a British regiment, not with an Australian military unit (his family had moved to England in 1910).
Mons = the capital city of the province of Hainaut (Belgium); the Battle of Mons (1914) was a battle fought in the vicinity of Mons during the First World War (1914-1918)

prefect = an older school pupil who has been placed into a position of limited authority by a school (usually a private school); typically a prefect is responsible for specified duties, and looks after younger pupils (including mentoring, monitoring, controlling, and disciplinary roles)
