The Wedding of the Brownies to the Fairies
You know that each Brownie was asked by the Queen
Of the Fairies to come and join them on the green,
And there, to enjoy a nice Fairyland tea,
Each sitting beside his own sweet bride to be.
Well! When tea was over, they talked for a space,
And then, shortly after, the wedding took place,
And each kindly Brownie, with his Fairy bride,
Went off in a nice golden coach, for a ride,
And out of the windows, as they sped along,
They sang to good children this sweet, little song —
“We Fairies are riding now right past your door,
And we have so many nice presents in store,
For all the good children when, Christmas-time comes —
Big dolls, tops and balls, and some lovely toy drums,
And when Santa says to us, ‘Where shall I call?’
We’ll give him your names and addresses and all;
So you do your best, all the way, as you go,
And we will stay by you to help you, you know;
Then peacefully sleep on, and always do right;
Good-night to you, children! Good-night dears! Good-night!”
