Blasting accident.
Two miners injured.
Bendigo, Tuesday.
At the New Nil Desperandum mine, Raywood, yesterday, J. Hasking and W. Greenway were injured by a blasting accident.
Several holes had been bored, the fuse was lit, and the men retired to cover. When they thought all the charges had exploded they returned to the workings and noticed that one of the holes was still smoking. Both men turned and dashed for safety, but the charge went off almost immediately.
Fortunately the miners did not receive the full force of the explosion, which was directed upward. Hoskings was only slightly injured, but Greenway sustained several severe cuts on the back and legs, and Dr Catford had to make incisions to remove a piece of quartz embedded in the flesh.
